Yeah right catch them on a cue ball. That I'd like to see. We use giant lures for giant fish, no 6 or 7" squids for white marlin and sails. The original question wasn't about white marlin.

What good is a video to you? It seems fairly obvious you don't want to see one, because you'll ridicule and pick it apart.

Where's the "block" on this message board so I don't have to read your garbage?
Here is the place yu can "block" a username and not see it. Please use it so sfc does not have to listen to you whine yourself.

click on user cp.....Go to "buddy/Ignore list

Buddy / Ignore Lists
To remove a user from either the Buddy or Ignore Lists, un-tick the box next to their name and click the 'Save List' button.

To add a user to either list, enter their name in the empty boxes for that list and click 'Save List'.

Check / Uncheck All

Capt. Woodward,
I feel your response is a little harsh. Have I harshed on people...Yes. Have I gone over the top....Yes. Have I had to use the block button....Yes, on one person that kept taking jabs at me.

Take it from me, if you don't want to read or hear something, then don't. But your response should not be the Sportfishermen way, at least in theory.

Cheers,
Jim

I think Deep C is the harsh one. He decided to use the "F" word is his replys. He's the one yelling in caps. I don't see where Capt. Woodard was out of line.

Deep Cs frustrated cause he can't catch fish with a circle hook. Apparently some people can.

Thanks for the instructions MACK. Maybe he will follow them.

Never have I seen a post offering anything good to the SFC community from this guy...only negative comments. Never have I heard any tips from this self proclaimed master of billfishing with circle hooks that anyone can benefit from.

Come on Capt. Woodward, offer up some advice on how to effectively use a combo bait with a circle hook or GO AWAY!

At least I showed the class to keep it to F and a bunch of **** instead of unladiing the real thing. I have put up with enough of his slanted stuff for long enough...He started in blasting me when a member showed a rig he is marketing that uses circle hooks for naked baits. Insuating I'm against circles. Half the rigs on my boat are circles. I have nothing against them for naked baits. I do however have a big problem with them in conjunction with a class of lure/bait that I manufacture and feed my family with.
Losses to date because of the circle rule forced the lay off of four close friends who worked for me and as of a couple weeks ago the closing of my whole facility. This no joke. Pissed? Yes very much so! His callous, thoughtless, smart ass comments that have no bearing on this have me out of my comfort zone. He wants a fight? he's got one.
The issue with the circles is based around WHITE MARLIN and a certain class of lure/baits. He keeps tossing irrelevant successes with species that dont share the same habits. He slams the white as being puny... I don't debate that... But a quicker more finicky billfish is not to be found in either ocean. I merely said if he's got relevant video then bring it on. Otherwise don't try to interject successes with relatively easy species as being some kind of fix all...
Look at a bass tour. Same species, a couple hundred miles apart, even they don't eat the same way. Pacific sails, striped, black marlin feed differently than our white antichrist to the north.

He opened this little debate and I have no problem riding him right back to Ottowa on principal alone...

DEEP, I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. I AM FROM THE MID-ATLANTIC. THESE WHITES ARE HARD ENOUGH TO GET WITH DINK BAITS AND J-HOOKS LET ALONG CIRCLES. THEN YOU TAKE AWAY THE BAITS THAT THEY GO AFTER ON THE LONG AND SHORT RIGGERS (TYPICALLY THE LARGER LURES IN VARIOUS SIZES), IT MAKES THESE THINGS EVEN HARDER.

A BIG PART OF THE PROBLEM THAT MANY PEOPLE DON'T LOOK AT IS THE ECONOMCI IMPACT THAT THESE CHANGES ARE GOING TO HAVE ON OUR COAST, NOT THE WEST COAST, PACIFIC, S.FLORDIA, ETC... IF WE DON'T FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE, THESE TOURNAMENTS THAT BRING IN SO MUCH MONEY IN TOURISM TO THE AREAS, TACKLE SHOPS, MARINAS, ETC... WILL GO AWAY.

I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST CIRCLES, BUT J-HOOKS AND DEAD BAIT TROLLING WITH BIG LURES IS PART OF A TRADITION HERE IN THE MID-ATLANTIC. IF, LIKE DEEP SAID SOMEONE CAN SHOW WAYS TO RIG SO THAT WE MAY TRY THEM AND GAIN SOME TYPE OF RESULT, PLEASE HAVE AT IT. I AM ALL EARS; HOWEVER, UNTILL THEN, I AM SICK OF THE DAMN GOVERNMENT STICKING THERE NOSE INTO EVERY LITTLE PLACE THEY CAN WITHOUT RESEARCHING ALTERNATIVES. JUST B/C IT WORK FOR BLACKS,ETC... IT DOESN'T MEAN IT WORKS FOR EVERYTHING.

THE POINT HERE IS THAT WE HERE IN THE ATLANTIC HAVE A PROBLEM SUCCESSFULLY RIGGING BAITS WITH A SUCESSFULL HOOKUP RATIO FOR WHITE MARLIN. PLEASE GIVE US SOME IDEAS, NOT JUST BRAG AND TELL US HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU ARE. IF WE TRY THOSE IDEAS AND THEY DO NOT WORK, TELL US IF YOU HAVE HAD LUCK WITH THESE TECHNIQUES OVER HERE. UNTIL YOU HAVE ATEMPTED TO FISH FOR THESE FISH, I DON'T SEE HOW YOU CAN ATTACK SOMEONE. AGAIN AS DEEP SAID MANY TIMES, THIS WHOLE RULE REVOLVES AROUND THE WHITE MARLIN DEBATE AND ITS SURVIVAL. SO FINDING A SOLUTION IS VITAL TO HAVE THE CIRCLE WORK AND STAY IN THE LONG RUN. I WANT TO USE IT, BUT LAST YEAR, WE STARTED EXPERIMENTING AND WENT 1-27 ON LURE/CIRCLE BAITS FOR WHITES. AS DEEP SAID AGAIN THE PROBLEM IS THE NEED FOR DROPING BACK TO HOOK.

You make some good points. Sounds like there's a history between you two that I'm not aware of. You make a good point about whites being finicky eaters. They are that for sure. As for your business, that is a shame, but rules and technology changes affect many people in many ways. One has to make adjustments. In a way, I guess it's sort of like being a fish; survival of the fittest.

And its my way of being the fittest to fight this bs at every turn and angle I can. I will do so to my dying breath. I was on the horn with NMFS this morning for the zillionth time letting them know exactly where I stand... Since others from the industry have now joined the fight you will see something change here pretty soon...

Only thing I would do differently is add a swivel between the hook and the front of the lure.

Capt. Woodward, Do you then put the hook through the swivel like a Guatamala rig? I thought about tyring to do somthing with a heavy piece of dacron.
