circle hook solution?

Ok I do not know how well these work. I am sure as heck not a marlin fisherman and have never used them. But can't you use the plastic ballyhoo? You wouldn't have to rig these with circle hooks would you? Seems to me like they would be considered artificial and lures. Like I said I have no clue about how well they work but that looks like a quick way around the rule if they are useable.

Hmmmmm......haven't thought of that. Soak them in some pogy oil or something for scent. Might be a possibility.

Yes fake hoos can be used and yes they can be run with J hooks. There are some good ones out there and its among the options we will be looking at this year for sure. Still its a step short of what a good true combo has to offer.
I have two ideas brewing that may work for the combo. One is a design I came up with and another came from a friend...I'll keep everone posted if it works...

it was just a shot in the dark like. I am new to this game but have seen big dredges rigged with holographic baits raise fish and get a few hits so thought that maybe this would work. I know it is no real hoo combo but you do get to use that j-hook for better hook ups and such.
