Actually we get a little run in summer of rats in the 150-300 range. Kona see's the most numbers, strangely on the other hand us Oahu boys see more sailfish then they do in August. Biggest black I have heard about here in Oahu was about 500 last year caught of Kaneohe. Im not sure what the Kona record is.
an absolute legend in Kona holds the Kona black marlin record at 1,060, he also has an 1,143 blue making him the only captain in Kona to score both grander black and grander blue in Kona waters. I'll put it you this way, Bart Miller was one of Pete's deckhands in earlier years, and Pete has fished in all 47 HIBT tournaments with the overall most consistent record. This man is an idol in the marlin fishing world....
That is not the biggest Black off Kona. There was a 1209 weighed in 1980, and I'm not sure thats the biggest either. I seem to think there was a larger one caught down south.
the black he and Stymie hooked on the corner off red hill many years ago, Marlin has one pic of it in the air and that thing is certifiably(spelling) MASSIVE!! No question, plenty of big black ones find dinner on the west side of the big island...
