yet it seems like the only legitimate place to target Blue Marlin and YFT within reach of the Keys.
Just wondering how productive the BM fishing in the gulf stream south of the Florida Keys is these days? I remember some of the first articles I ever read about marlin fishing were authored by one of the capts. mentioned earlier in the thread (Jim Sharpe) - fishing the "wall" about 20 miles south of Key West?
patudo, there are plenty of marlin offshore of the keys. when I was working out of islamorada, we'd see blues, sails, whites and broadbills free jumping and sunning almost everytime we went out 35 miles or more. they are finicky though, and unless you are specifically targeting them or your boat has good harmonics, you are going to have a hard time getting them consistently. the blues arent very big, with the Key's record being a bit over 800. most are 100-150 rats. the swordies can be big though, as well as the makos and tigers
Thanks for all the feedback. Lets keep it coming if there is still more to share.
Sounds like great Wahoo fishing in the winter and reef & deep dropping throughout the year. Anyone spent much time over there in the summer months looking for Marlin or Yellowfin Tuna? If so what was your experience and how did you target them?
