Caveman Sportfishing mate with 1290 lb. Marlin this past winter

Our mate on the HOOKED UP 1, Jeff Hudson spent his winter working the marlin grounds down in Australia this past winter and mated on the boat that had the largest Black Marlin caught last year. Presently Jeff is working on the HOOKED UP 1 out of South Jersey Marina fishing for Black Drum-Stripers but I'm sure he will be very glad to see the offshore season start up in a few weeks. His brother, Mike has the largest Blue Marlin every caught on the HOOKED UP a few years ago in the 500 lb range so the Hudson boys know how to billfish. Both boys spent their early years training under the master himself, Capt Billy Garrison Sr and on the old Lady Catherine and their father Herbie was a first class fisherman in his day before moving down to North Carolina a few years ago from Cape May. Jeff has worked the pit on the Dream Catcher as a second mate in the Mid-Atlantic 500 a number of times so he has had the oppurtunity to fish on some of the top billfish boats around. The boys have it in their blood. Jeff has been with me as a mate on the HOOKED UP 1 for a number of years now and many of you know him from our offshore trips in the past. When it comes to trolling for wahoo, marlin or tuna Jeff is about as good as it gets. We are very glad to have him on board again this season.

Largest Black Marlin caught in the world last year which was 1290 lbs
I do not have any details on what class rod and reel was used but my guess since many of the Marlin down there are over 500 lbs it would be all 130's.

I will ask Jeff for some details on how they fish for big Marlin down under and post it on our web page or this site soon.
