Sit down Shut up And fish
THE CAROLINA ADVENTURE...
well lets start by saying whew what a great place. ok , leave NJ with mark and his son joey @ 2pm. great afternoon , hook up with 34silverton [john] around 3pm. and head south on 13. everything going great, boat trailing smooth, right up to the point where a lady pulls up to us at a red light and informs me we just lost a tire about a half mile back. "SHIT" ok, pull over and assess the situation, well seems like the luggs worked loose, and the brake rotor sheered the lugs off. thankfully 34silverton is a worldclass mechanic. and i have a spaer hub with luggs and luggnuts, again "SHIT" i forgot the toolbox and jack. well somehow another fisherman saw us and offered help with tools, so 30 minutes later and we are heading south again. no problems now,
NOTE, IF YOU HAVE ALUMINUM HUBS ON YOUR TRAILER YOU NEED TO TIGHTEN LUGGS EVERY 75=100 MILES OR YOU'LL BE DOING THE SAME AS WE DID. TRUST ME THEY WORK LOOSE. MAYBE 34SILVERTON WILL CHIME IN ON WHY THE STEEL, AND ALUMINUM WHEELS ARE A BAD COMBO.
so we arrive in hatteras late friday eve get into our rooms for a few hours sleep and off to teaches lair, dump the boat and start out looking for warm water, ok long story short trolled our butts off not much love found 1 yellow fin tuna and got the kid on it. yep it was his first. trolled the rest of the day with no luck, but hey its our first time fishing down there, hope too learn more from others.keeping the boat at teaches lair for a few weeks so if anyone is around the marina keep an eye on her for me. we'll be down next weather window.

Way to go guys. Hate to hear you had some problems but I know gettin out on the water made up for it. The bite is just around the corner, your boats there and I know you will hit it when they show!

well, just a new trend we use on our boat is we always carry new flags for fish, we dont fly them but when we bust a cherry the entire boat signs and dates the flag and presents it to the angler, maybe i can get a shot of joey [bunkerboy] on another site, holding it. also trying to get him and his pop to join a "real" fishing website...

Nice going on a purty chunk 'fin, Joey. That first one is special and sometimes it's better off to start with a taste before you tangle with a bunch. That first taste is sweet and when the bunches follow, it gets even sweeter!

good luck down there and congrats on fish. Most people dont realize that there is still a big learning curve to catchin fish off of HI and OI. Most people think it is simply "shooting fish in a barrel" but it is not unless you consider the mahis. my first two years out of pc i experienced the same thing, the charter boats and locals came back with 20 yf and i had 4. It took some time to steadily produce but we did in fact learn.
things to remember:
drop lines wwwb in springtime as yellowfins are shy that time
dont be afraid to tie hook direct to line, no leader.
dont be afraid to pull planer
play for the double and triple bites
stay on the lookout for the fleet in a tight circle and carefully work your way in
