    I Will 100% Second,

The Cheasapeke Marine Training Institute, they are (or were) a Houston Marine center aswell. It is owned and run by Ex USCG CO's, EO', and Engineering Officer's. They have the ability to come around the otherside to help you "understand" the material. Anyone can teach you to memorize the answer's to the test, but when it's you butt on the line (bad weather, fog, traffic, etc.....) you'd darn well better know what you're doing. The answer's you were taught to memorise won't mean anything unless you have the fundemental's under your belt. By the way, if you happen do be looking for work after you get you paper's, their recommendation will go along way. But be forewarned, if you don't meet their standard's, they won't recommend you. That's exactly the way it should be. I speak the way I do because I know the guy's (have for many year's), it's where I get my training and re-cert's when needed. Frank

My buddy and I attended Sea School in Morehead City, NC. http://www.seaschool.com/
It was okay--we both passed the CG exam, however 13 others failed. The toughest part for me was Charting, although none of it was easy--you need a good memory!!!

My opinion, for what it's worth: all the short-term courses teach the test! If a person wants to learn more than how to pass the test, I'd recommend a community college course.

I will have to agree the bunch over at CMTI are top notch. Can't wait to finish up my sea time and get back to see them for some up grades... I need one more season commercial fishing to end up with a 1600 ton...

graduated in 1997 from Charter Capt. Loved the school. It was 12 week course when I went not the weekend crash course where all they teach you is the answers.

It still is 12 weeks, I am not a fan of the weekend crash course. A lot can happen 100 miles offshore.
