Don't be sorry for Scotty, He Lived the life he wanted!
Hey everyone, this is my first posting. I would like to say a few words about Scotty. I first met Scott when he crashed my 18th Birthyday Party, what a night. We soon became best friends and were pretty much inseperable for about 5 years. We perfected the "Art of the Party". It was Scott who gave me my nick name that has pretty much been the only name most people have known me by "Fuzzy" for the last 32 years. I earned that name by not getting a haircut for over 10 years and probably not being able to see straight for the first few years we knew each other.Scott was one of the toughest guys I ever knew, both physically and emotionally. I remember many nights of drunken parting and brawling with him in our youth, at that age we never ran from any challange, stupid or not. It was Scott who peirced my ear, while under the boardwalk at 9th street during a night of hard partying somewhere around 1979 or 80. We were roommates for 2 or 3 years I can't say exactly how long as the day's kind of ran together back then and my memory has probably sustained some permenant damage along the way. Scott came from a great family although he rarely spoke of them later in life, his Mom and Dad treated me like one of the family, his sisters Valerie and Dawn were the finest sisters a guy could have. Around the time I was 23 or 24 I got a steady girlfriend and bought a house and I guess we kind of drifted apart and then lost touch for about 15 years. I bought an old Sport Fisher and brought it to Ocean City in 1997, I pulled into the fuel dock atb the Fishing Center to fill her up with fuel and who do you think I saw sitting at the bar? It was my old friend Scott, what a rush to see him again after all of those years! As time went on Scott would tell me about his adventures on the Water Dog, Raven Lady, Pumpin Hard etc. One day he ask me why I always wanted to hear of his experiences instead of having my own. I tried to explain to him about how I had grown up and had all of the responsabilities of owning a buisness and having employees and payments and deadlines and schedules and all the other crap I could pile on top of that, he just took another drink, told me I was full of shit and didn't have the balls I used to have. For a couple of years after that little speech of his just went round and round in my head. It was the morning of my 45th birthday that I decided he was right!!! One week later I was living in the Florida Keys working on a charter boat. I've been here 5 years now fishing for a living. On the rare ocassion I would see my friend Scott he would smile and ask me " Whacha dooin man "and I would reply "Livin my life man ". I'm not sure if Scott ever knew what a profound effect he had on my life, as young men or as the Salty old codger I have become. I'm sure glad of one thing, that I let his words roll around in my head, I couldn't be happier then I am now being as he put it a "Broke Ass Charter Capt". So when you think of Scott don't be sad for him, he is one of the only people you will ever have known who lived life on his terms. I'm sure it was not his intention, at the end to meet his maker full of regret for the things he had not done, or to show up in a well preserved body. You can beleive he slid into heaven sideways at about a hundred, drink in one hand, smoke in the other, smile on his face, head shakin from side to side yellin at the top of his lungs "Dam What A Ride". I'm sure that's the way he would want everyone to remember him. RIP Tweets your friend Fuzzy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
