    Capt Bob Keever RIP

I spent the day in Cape May working on the boat today getting ready to head south. It's a crazy thing, but it was a beautiful October day back in 1993 when he had the best day in the Canyon on tuna - hand feeding yellowfin next to the boat. Today was indeed one of those nice October days, and as fate would have it, I received a call from Tim today while sitting on the boat with a pink drink (coined by Bob), informing me that Capt. Bob Keever passed away suddenly today. Bob has fished some comm and mostly recreationally a good portion of his life, and spent the 80's and 90's fishing with Bill May, John R on Sea Mistress and myself on Executive Blues and later on the Kirsten, and on the new Contango. Bob spent most of his time with his friend Bill May on Bill's Seaducer in the 80's and Boss Lady. I must say this man and Bill May introduced me to offshore fishing. A kind heart, and a funny guy in his own way, he will surely be missed.

He was the guy you always wanted on the boat, when **** happened Bob would figure it out. In 1999, I was in the Wilmington Canyon, started taking on water and could not find the source of the leak, I called Boss Lady who was somewhere in the Wilmington, luckly, they were 2 miles away, I ran towards them, pulled up next to them and Bob came aboard and found the source of the water. He was amazing at sea and one hell of a fisherman. We were running into Oregon Inlet one year, hard SE sea, Bob navitigated the breakers and kept his cool and pulled the tabs up, and tweaked the throttles and rode the boat right down the other side. What an incrediable captain at the wheel. There were always laughs and good times. I met him and Bill May in 1988 as they were shooting water balloons at our house in Avalon, they were like grown up kids, lots of fun !

Here is a picture of Bob taken from the Avalon Offshore Tourney back in 2003. Bob is 2nd from the left.

Just remembered, the last time I fished with him, we won most white marlin points in the 2005 MA500, Bob fished with us the last day.
