My description is not in any way meant to slam him. That last sentence of mine sums it up. He demands perfection for his clients... He does take the time to not only talk to everyone but go deep into his reasoning behind everything he does...
First, please allow me to thank those of you who have said some kind words about me here. They are greatly appreciated by an old, ill man and it is a humbling honor to be mentioned in the same thread as a great one like Captain Black Bart Miller.
More importantly, I have some things to say about my good, great friend of long standing. We call each other "brother", and we mean it.
Bart truly is the biggest and most powerful legend that I know of in the world of marlin and most other big game fishing. He is an acknowledged and proven innovator and master of designing and manufacturing tremendously effective marlin lures (that catch everything, not just marlin) and has been since the very earliest days of marlin lures and modern marlin fishing.
His catches are legendary as well and his personal tournament record and that of his lures is exceptional, to say the least.
Yes, Black Bart is one of the greatest fishermen and tackle and technique innovators of all time. But far more importantly, he is an incredibly good and kind, loving man and the finest kind of true friend that anybody can be blessed to have in his life.
Get to know him while there is still time to do so. And when you do, tell him his old brother and that black dog of his say "howdy, Brother".
One of my fishing friends was in FLA a couple years back and stopped by his shop. My friend was asking about some lures to use off the VA coast. The person in the store said "go ask him (pointing to Bart)". Bart told my buddy, "buy this...pull it on the short rigger".
First trip out, a nice Yellowfin falls prey to it...about an hour later, they get a 300+ pound Blue Marlin on it. No, I don't know which lure it was (I need to find out though) but he said Bart was as nice as could be and chatted with him for some time.
Sounds like a good man to me

He and I worked together for quite some time. Impossible son of a ***** to please at times the shouting matches still echo in my head. That though is Bart pure and simple.
Bartster has been a blue girl mentor to thousands of want-a-be marlin chasers, myself included..
He's the man , he may have lost a step or two and a few brain cells over the last 15 years, but so have I...
He still is someone to recon with when discussing the Bart way to your blue marlin addiction ! Can't begin to fathom where my blue girl game would be without PA-PA showing me the way....
Althought he is a PITA to some, ya got to take it on the chin, ride him hard, get kicked off the saddle, then ride him again... again and again... He's a horse worth riding lol
Yo Fredster, hows it goin? Hope your well.... blue marlin have arrived in numbers off Cape Cod, so it's time to make the run to grander huntO'ya Roddy's back on this side of the pond... can you say road trip , gona luv getting Roddy and Bart together again for a interesting lunchin at Sailfish Marina..
