Cape May Shark Tournament
Well well well fishing is not always gonna go the way you want it.
I had nothing but trouble finding a crew for this and want to thank Brotha Bob for stepping up and fishing with us for 2 days.
Day 1 Brotha bob johnseafood and I run to the 750 where we found crappy water no life at all. Spend a few hours dragging baits but nothing was to be had. Moved about 10 miles to the cigar and found the same conditions. At least the cigar provided us with one mako that looked like it had been born that day. We released him and that was it day one in the books as a bad day.
Day 2 Same crew and rain rain lightning more lighting and rain but good sea conditions.
Strategy was to go after a thresher thinking that this would be the best shot of taking the tournament.
Well we check hole after hole after hole and caught 4 small sharks witch we released.
We moved to another spot and just as we got there a boat from Indian River landed a 300 lb class thresher. Well about 40 minutes later I saw a coast guard chopper in the air. I got on the radio and contacted the coast guard to see if they needed assistance. They said yes that our assistance would help at that time. So we reeled a few lines in a cut a few off so we could get moving fast. Got over to the boat in matter of minutes and saw what was happing.
When these guys landed there fish they hit the ignition key with the end of the gaff and could not run the boat. Well just like a few weeks ago in the poormans when the boat with the notched transome sunk these guys could not turn the boat and the notch transom was allowing waves to fill the boat. About 40 minutes later a cutter was on scene and we were dismissed and back to fishing.
We gave it our all for 2 days and produced nothing to weigh.
Cape May Shark tournament was a great time though. Lots of great people and a fun event and I cant wait to fish it again next year.
Oh and for those of you that did not attend the FREAKING FOOD WAS AWESOME !
Off the hook bait and tackle and sharky’s fending frenzy did one hell of a job on this whole project.
