    Cape May Shark Tournament report

    Cape May Shark Tournament
Well well well fishing is not always gonna go the way you want it.
I had nothing but trouble finding a crew for this and want to thank Brotha Bob for stepping up and fishing with us for 2 days.

Day 1 Brotha bob johnseafood and I run to the 750 where we found crappy water no life at all. Spend a few hours dragging baits but nothing was to be had. Moved about 10 miles to the cigar and found the same conditions. At least the cigar provided us with one mako that looked like it had been born that day. We released him and that was it day one in the books as a bad day.

Day 2 Same crew and rain rain lightning more lighting and rain but good sea conditions.
Strategy was to go after a thresher thinking that this would be the best shot of taking the tournament.
Well we check hole after hole after hole and caught 4 small sharks witch we released.
We moved to another spot and just as we got there a boat from Indian River landed a 300 lb class thresher. Well about 40 minutes later I saw a coast guard chopper in the air. I got on the radio and contacted the coast guard to see if they needed assistance. They said yes that our assistance would help at that time. So we reeled a few lines in a cut a few off so we could get moving fast. Got over to the boat in matter of minutes and saw what was happing.
When these guys landed there fish they hit the ignition key with the end of the gaff and could not run the boat. Well just like a few weeks ago in the poormans when the boat with the notched transome sunk these guys could not turn the boat and the notch transom was allowing waves to fill the boat. About 40 minutes later a cutter was on scene and we were dismissed and back to fishing.

We gave it our all for 2 days and produced nothing to weigh.

Cape May Shark tournament was a great time though. Lots of great people and a fun event and I cant wait to fish it again next year.

Oh and for those of you that did not attend the FREAKING FOOD WAS AWESOME !
Off the hook bait and tackle and sharky’s fending frenzy did one hell of a job on this whole project.

The food was better than any tournament I have been at TOP NOTCH AND I thank you!

For the first year you could not have done a better Job Congrates.

Oh ya Steve from F stop who is the sea tow guy for Cape May won largest mako ! Congrates Steve !!!!

And the big shark was cuaght by one of my good friends Dave Feast from Elite Landscaping in Voorhees NJ . Dave is a man who loves to fish but is not set up to do it. He won this event with a 277 lb threshar caught on his four wins pleasure boat. Great job man keep the MOJO flowing J

Hey John- At least you gave a good try at it! I was listening to the VHF after I talked to you and I could tell by the sound of your voice that you were still having a blast even on the trip back to Cape May!!

Did you make it back by 7:00? The last I heard, the suggestion to lighten your load and throw Johns Seafood overboard was brought up by someone!
Then one of your next transmissions was about you comming through a wall of water- or did you create the wall of water?-LOL

Either way- I'm glad you had fun doing what you like!!!

    John,
Dude, If we are ever in trouble out there, I hope your around! There aren't to many people in that circumstance that would have cut lines & dropped everything to give assistance! I give you a big THUMBS UP!

I was on the boat at the time and John didn't hesitate even a split second when the request for assistance came in. I can honestly say I don't think it was more than 30 seconds from the request to when all the lines were in (or cut) and John was on the throttle like a mad man....

You could tell when we pulled up the other crew was much relieved that we were there. I would have been to.
