    Cape May 7-27 & 7-28 Report & Pics

Left CM inlet just after midnight, Friday 7-27, headed to chunk the Massey's/Hambone area. Took our time getting out watching some interesting lightning storms off our port side, ended up dropping lines in at 4:00 on the north side of Massey's. No action until at 6:00, a 57 pound, 46 inch Bluefin smacked our deep line on a whole butterfish. Bled and gutted the tasty one and stuck him in our new canyon bag (thanks Chuck, great product). We had one other run-off on a live spot, no idea how we missed that one, and a missed hit on a jig and that was it. Pulled the hook at 9:00 to start the troll. We trolled all day only producing one knock-down on a rainbow spreader. Found multiple schools of bonito going nuts on the surface but no tuna. Mid-afternoon we came upon a plywood sized piece of plastic floating at the west tip of the hambone and it was loaded, I mean loaded with Mahi. Non-stop action for at least 20 minutes, one after another in the box, blood spattered everywhere, a true whack em and stack em situation. We put enough (24 total) in the box we started feeling greedy so we started throwing them back and eventually left them biting. Trolled for another hour or two and headed back in making it to the dock with a couple hours of daylight to spare.

On Saturday we took a quick trip into the bay to see if we could grab a couple flat bastards to add to our upcoming feast. Had a couple hours of constant action between the flounder, snapper blues, and baby dogfish. Put two flounder in the box at 18" and 20" and threw back at least 15 more shorts.

All in all, good time on the water. We ate good on Sunday.

Maybe if you didn't spend so much time on SF.com at work you could have got the day off.
