Cape Canaveral 120 nm buoy?
We were thinking about making a tuna trip out to the 120 buoy overnight in the late winter or spring time. I was wondering if anyone knows what time of year is better or if there is a certain month or week thats best. Also what strategy works better? trolling, chunking, or jigging? I've heard when it gets good out there, its really good. Do they hold to the buoy or is it just a landmark across the stream that everyone runs to?

East Side...
Most boats do not start to make the trip until April 1. The buoy is just a destination point.
It seems to peak about Memorial Day but it is also good in the Bahamas at that time of year too.
It is mostly high speed trolling with powerful radars capable of displaying birds working bait. I never heard of chunking...
Capt Ed Dwyer from the Ticket is probably the most knowledgeable person out of Cape Canaveral about this fishery. It might be worth chartering his big Paul Spencer boat to get first hand know-how before you do the trip yourself...Google it.
It is a fun adventure but it is not all that much different of a tuna fishery than Ocean City has been in early June the last few years...
Good Luck
