As long as the backside of the bottom of your hand has the reinforcement around that corner, that eliminates the pressure on the backside and keeps your hand from getting "crushed" so to speak after quite a few sizable fish. That is where most of the load is carried on a double wrap, at least for me.
As far as a velcrow stap for a cuff... no thanks. I'd personally like it to fit snugly against the wrist without any excess material there. Again, just my personal preferance. Sounds like you're working towards different solutions.
The re-inforcement isn't a problem. Preventing the "crushing" effect from the wraps under load is a problem. It's do-able but would be a severe sacrafice to flexibility of the pinky and to a lesser extent the ring finger. We'll work on it, at least for the heavy gloves, which is where it's really needed. The mediums and lights, a re-inforce with extra leather and the slip-not black fabric should be enough.
The cuff without an outside velcro strap is do-able as well. An internal velcro closure that is hidden or straight to a stretch material like neopreme that will stretch to size and fit snug, will see what the factory designers can come up with.
The glove design team is actually reading this thread.

I like the neoprene cuff idea.
I do too. However, like anything there are sacrafices to a particular choice.
The neoprene will be harder to get on and off quickly, if you have ever used all neoprene gloves they are not easy to get on and off quickly. Although it would work the best and be easier to manu than mixing velcro into the cuff.
As an aside on neoprene gloves..
We use them for cutting butter fish flats that are frozen. Which is much easier and faster than thawed or half thawed. Makes that job a heck of lot nicer and affords some protection from the fin barbs, plus your hands don't get half frozen from other types of gloves that get wet and draw the cold to your hand. Sure a couple flats no biggie, but when cutting mutiples, well, you get it.
I agree that the neoprene gloves are a pain in the ass to get on and off when wet but the cuff is such a small aspect of the glove I think it would just pull right off. When you pull it off pull the cuff down over the glove a bit so its not in the way. you could do that to put them on as well.
