Handle will by nylon cord wrapped in two positions and finished with two turks head knots for each handle.

Why do you want a barb on a straight gaff? Seems like it would damage more meat.

Either way, that thing is pretty. It'll probably make it in a horror movie one of these days.

It comes with or without the barb by order. Personal preference and target species. Yours won't have a barb, I understand and agree for da meat.

is the brace/gussetting welded and ground smooth or forged as one piece?

Jimmy the hook is formed, backbone and tip added by hand welding and filled, hand ground to shape, plated and polished.

Let's put it this way..it's not made in China..I don't need an interpreter either...it is imported under our trademark and copyright agreement with the manufacturer.

Its unfortunate we had to go outside the USA for this hook. I worked hard trying to get a fabricator here in the states to build what I wanted which was very close to this design, however, the cost to do so was way out of line, or huge volumes. So we settled, but have a lead time since they are custom made to order. Tradeoffs, part of life.
