Final and prototype pulling video with Deep C on the "MIRAGE" off Palm Beach 3/17/10.
This is a series of clips on the lures pulled that day to double check headweights and further tweek and tune a number of new lures we are bringing out.
You can also read about the "Masher" in Marlin Magazine March issue page 79, in the product feature section.
You can watch in HD fullscreen by double clicking the video window.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this, Canyongear. I truly wish more commercial makers would do this for their products. That way the buyer can see how the lure is going to act in the water - ideally from both an above and below the water perspective. Much much more useful than some of the flowery guff you see in writeups.
Details on hook rig and leader size used in the videos could also be helpful.
Tim
I hope the viewers get what we see in them. The "plume" of the proper weight one is higher, smoke trail longer and cadence of "pop" is more in step with the 4or 5 down and one up. Though the heavy weight still pops, its not as "active" . It is important to note though that the heavy weight will fish in rougher water than the standard.
That day was calmish water. Runs like that in the flat. Heavier one though really doesn't on the calm calm but will run like the other when it gets up above 4'...
Pitch I run mine on the inside left rigger or sometimes on the flat. He will no doubt show the Mashers predacessor, the Crusher in what promises to be an interresting series of vid. The Crusher is a touch smaller but still full size blue marlin class bait and can run off a rigger nicely...
Tim's really taking the bull by the horns doing the extra footwork to get these baits really dialed in. Good looks alone don't get the whole job done. Design helps the process but its not til this little weight and balance stuff gets tweeked that the world becomes a wonderful place...
Guys, what's the outer skirt on the Grander? It looks like blue sparkle back and clear belly with a black side stripe - can't find it on your list of colour options in the site?
I like the little no.8 - any plans to bring back the no.7?
The light (original weight) left side pull headweight is dead on, we knew that, however we had tweeked the insert a tad and the last skirt shoulder was lengthened an 1/8" to my liking so this was a double check on the tweeks. The skirt shoulders on the Masher are original, not our version. This allows either a tight fit roll and tie or a thicker skirt glue on style. The right side pull the head is an 1.25 OZ heavier version which will be available by special order if needed. Since we had to build an insert from scratch it is easier to start with a size that will accomodate plenty of lead in the keel. The lead/plastic insert ratio can then be adjusted accordingly maintaining somewhat the original insert shape and size to the overall head and weight. It's easy then to remove weight from the insert, it's more complicated than this little explanation but for here that's enough.
Very happy with the original pop - swallow air - dive smoke - wiggle - surface pop cadence as Deep pointed out is a nice 4-6 as it should be for this head. You can certainly see the larger pop at surface than the heavier version and swallow's more air on the dive.
Patudo, the Grander skirt you mention was one I had lying around, it is an Ocean Lure Concepts TT 80. Im not sure if that color is even available anymore, it is a pink skirt with heavy blue flec and a black lateral stripe. The Grander butt diameter is big so the 2 1/8" throat of the TT 80 is a perfect fit. I am going to have to stock up on that skirt size in colors since we don't carry that skirt size currently the largest we use is an OC 70 which works on all our large/teaser sizes currently.
The TT skirts work better for a minimal taper butt shoulder which the Grander and Masher has, we left the butt alone and did not update it to the newer style for now and after seeing it run will probably leave it that way. Thanks for the thoughts on the pulling video (s).
The tweeks and pulls will continue until we are satisfied with the action, keel weighting and look for the entire "LNG Classic" line.
The Grander clip is coming next.
