Myself, Arctek Jim, and Roy headed to the Canyon (Tails) Friday (8/19)afternoon in the “Fintage”, arriving at 7 or 8 pm. No balls available so we drifted what we thought would be a good drift for the night chunk.
Only a few minutes after lines in, 2 15# Mahi took off with baits and we had them boated quickly. After that, we had good Yellowfin action, each one being bigger than the last, ranging from 40 to 80#’s, and also picking up another Mahi 10# or so. Yellows and Mahi were in our lights all night, sometimes being picky and not taking baits, sometimes almost emptying our 9/0’s in several seconds LOL. Very good action for us, tapering off at about 2am. No sleep to speak of, unless you count bobbing around in your chair a little half asleep for about an hour. Trolled at first light, getting into some Albies, boated one around 35#, had several run-offs that either got off or dropped the lures. Also boated another small Mahi on the troll. We probably lost as many fish as we boated the whole trip, it was very good action for us! I’d post a more complete report, but I’m off in a few minutes to meet the “Northeast Angling” crew and Capt. Bill Brown for another 2 days of sharking/taping using my boat as a camera/support boat. Will report on that when I get back! We hope to get into some Mahi and Tuna as well, I’m bringing some of my gear too this time! Here’s some pics of the Canyon Trip! |
