Monday started off to be a normal day and night of working.
Then the procrastination started after watching Fountain17's Canyon Runner videos, then I started double thinking my turn down a couple days earlier of the offer from Fountain17 to fish aboard the Canyon Runner on an Overnighter Tuesday/Wednesday.
Now I just had to go!I said it on my last overnighter this may be the last time I get offshore, but here we go again

Knowing that I had 8 billion things going on this week and the possibility me slipping away for 24hrs would be tough. So I told Don I would give him an answer by 9:30pm Monday night if I could go or not after I made a list of things to do prior to leaving and to see if I had enough time to accomplish everything, then seek the approval of my boss to let me away.
Made my list and check it twice - MY BOSS ROCKS he gave me the go ahead and off I went.
They get things set up Chunks Chunks and more Chunks. I got nominated as 1st one up out of 4, at that moment I knew I was destin to get my chops broke.....NO PRESSURE but don't pull the hook!
A little time rolls by...As always I know as soon as I walk away something is going to happen, then I start thinking well if I get on a big fish and have to pee, that is going to suck, make a beeline for the head, get the bibs and boots off at the doorway and make a run for it close the door I hear the rod going off and FISH. DAMN IT never fails I knew if I tried to run back out I would end up on my head it the cockpit.![]()
A little time passed and things were back in order and we all had a turn with 4 on the deck. Smiles all around waiting and watching for more.
Hours passed thru the night with plenty of life all around, a nice sea turtle came up behind the boat. Hours and hours went by.
After a brief nap 4am was the call out for action to start again, wondering around outside, someone said your up 1st better put your boots and bibs back on, yeah let me pee 1st came back out fish on the deck DAMN IT all over again.
This time the action was here to stay one after a another on the deck, tuna thumping, blood splattering...jig after jig....squid after squid...chunks after chunks, gaff after gaff.
There was no order, just FISH ON after FISH ON. We had our share of LF, Then started the releases only keeping yellowfins
You could see the life cruising thru the water with Longfin after Longfin right behind it! Just awesome!
All in all it was an awesome trip for all of us! I lost track of what we caught kept and released but I think it ended somewhere 6YF boated and 24 LF total kept and released!
ALL I KNOW IT WAS A WHOLE LOT OF TUNA!
Sorry my pictures are the best but I was more than busynot to mention my camera was on the fritz.
The pictures don't do the trip and the crime scene any justice, in between cranking and them gaffing I hit it with a hose trying to keep it somewhat clean.
THANK YOU CANYON RUNNER & THE REST OF THE CREW FOR AN AWESOME TRIP!!!! YOU GUYS KNOW YOUR STUFF AND WORK EXTREMLY HARD AT IT AND GIVE IT MORE THAN 110%!
I have been wanting to fish with the Canyon Runner back when I use to work at the marina there 9 -10 yrs ago and I final did and will most definitely have to do it again without a doubt!
If you haven't fished with these guys yet YOU'RE MISSING OUT!
Thanks again!
