Friday night as I sat working in the office contemplating the accuracy of the weatherman's snow prediction. The bat phone rings, What ya doing tomorrow... You got an invite to be Capt Adam LaRosa's guest at the "Canyon Runner's Seminar Series"......Cool I think to myself free beer and a top notch fishing education to boot..... Grab the Nikon your covering the event. Well there goes the free beer.

But A chance to see how one of the East Coast's Elite Crew's do it I'm in.

Off i go at 7am on a frigid sat am. Truck thermometer read 17deg.

As I crested the fourth floor of the AC convention center there was a BUZZ about the place.

Meandering through the gathering crowd familiar faces and smiles were all about. I move into the main meeting room and proceed to scope out the main stage were it will all begin.


Capt Adam and the Canyon Runner crew are busy getting things ready for the mornings event. Capt. Adam gets on the mic and announces that anyone interested before the seminar starts is invited to come forward and inspect/fondle the tools of their trade.

WHAT, yup go through our stuff pull it out of the bags ask us anything you need. Laid out on the stage in front of him is bags and bags of spreader bars, lures , jets, wahoo plugs. Rods, Reels, bentbutts fighting belts, you name it its up there and you could go through it.

Canyon Runner's seminars are broken down in a way that allows for allot of interaction between the Crew and the audience. This is definitely a Hand's on seminar series. They are here to help
The Morning session was an overall session. Highlighting how they fish the Canyon Runner way.
Safety Safety Safety was the first order of business.

After the morning session, you can choose through out the day from a long list of break out sessions. Each break out session is either run by a Canyon Runner Capt. or Crew member. Or a leader in there field. The break out sessions are held in small class rooms where questions and interaction is encouraged.

The first time i wandered into Capt. Mark DeCabia's Swordfish seminar it was packed. So I waited and listened till the end and meandered up front to get some close ups of Capt Mark teaching some of his secrets for Swords.

You Into jigging for offshore species. Well there was plenty to get jiggy with, Popping and the specialized gear associated with it.

Guys, This is one well put together seminar. It's completely Hands on Capt Adam and his crew are Top Notch and bend over backwards to answer every one's questions.

Make a list of your tackle needs cause there are plenty of items on sale to add to your arsenal.
