Capt. Mark DeCabia was running the 48 Viking this week and with 4 big-eyes under there belt already from the Tri-State Overnight Tournament it was already a good start to the week and it only got better. On Thursday the Kevin McDerrmout charter was out with Capt. DeCabia and Capt. Mike Zajac and got their shot almost immediately. They pulled into the 100-square and before the last rod was out go 4 nice yellowfin in the 40-60 pound class. They spun the boat around and the wolf-pack came up and they had their big-eyes on. One-hour later two 150-pound eye-balls were on the deck. At night they picked a bunch of small yellowfin that were released and got up on the troll before first light. At 5:30am they got another shot and decked a third big-eye in the 125 pound range and came home.
Capt. Dulanie and DeCabia did a quick turn around trip leaving Friday afternoon with the Joe Montague charter and headed obviously right back to the Hudson Canyon. However with 75 boats already working the 100-square they anchored over on the West Wall at 26180/43070 and waited out a night bite that never came. They got up on the troll early in the morning and fought their way into the crowd and almost immediately came tight on 5 big-eyes. One hour twenty minutes later 3 fish in the 125-170 pound class were sitting on the deck making it an even 10 big-eyes for the week.
Take a look at the first picture and see if you can see where the first big-eye of the wolf-pack attacked first.
