Canyon Runner Reports - July 13-14

Capt. Phil Dulanie left Friday morning early and ran down to 19Fathom Lump and did not have a touch with the Greg Stiem charter so he picked up and ran to Massey's Canyon and dropped the anchor. There he read tons and tons of bait and bluefin but had 60 boats within a mile radius of him and the fish never went on the feed. He picked 2 45" blueifn in there in the 40-50 pound class and at 11am ran to the Wilmington. In the Wilmington working the east wall for tile fish the current was too fast so they trolled to the east corner of mouth across to the west corner and up to the notch on the west wall raising one white and releasing a small yellowfin.

Capt. Mark ran the Gene Croddick charter to the Baltimore canyon but left very late Friday afternoon so did not get set up at the tip until 9pm and missed out on the bluefin chunking getting there too late. The crew chunked one yellowfin at night and trolled 2 in the morning but had to leave very early to get home or would have ran inshore to get in on some of the great bluefin action on the lumps 15-20 miles inshore of the tip.

Nothing really going on anywhere in the canyons to speak of. However, the Bluefin TUNA fishing off Del/Maryland is great.

Unless you know of something different the reports of the Hudson/Toms are nothing to write home about. We personally know of a couple boats that fished there over the weekend with without question some of the best Captains and Crews on the East Coast and all they caught was a total of 2 tuna on each boat missing a couple more. We really would LOVE to hear of something better as it would be nice to run just 80 miles just one time this year. So far in about 20 trips between the two boats the closest run was 90 miles.

The only reason Phil and Mark went to the Wilmington and Baltimore respectively over the weekend is they tried inshore for bluefins but the crowd killed the fishing. However, they are back south inshore today with no crowd at all and Phil had 14 bluefin in just a few hours fishing this morning, releasing all of them but the limit, and losts a bunch more and I believe Mark was doing just as well. Fishing is just awesome down there and if you can get there you should as it probably won't last too much longer but right now is hard to beat.
