Capt. Mark DeBlasio, through a tremendous effort on his behalf over the past 5 days to fix a bent shaft on the Hooked Up II, got her going and got her back offshore with the Jimmy and Chris Earle charter. Trolling the Carteret they started the day with a nice yellowfin on the troll before setting up for a chunk by putting her on the drift on the southwest corner of the Carteret. They immediately started picking yellowfin when one of the yellowfin came up without a tail followed immediately by a 200-pound mako that chased it right over the gunnel. Mark immediately cut off a section of the yellowfin, mate Eddie Farrell got a shark rig and they put it out and hooked up immediately. An hour later the mako was darted and cleated off the bow and back to chunking they went.
They pulled some more yellowfin caught, measured and release a 48 inch sword that was in such good condition they decided to let it go hoping for a bigger one which came at 3am. With 10 yellowfin total in the boat at 3am they got a bite on a high rod on a Penn International 16 with only 60 pound flouro and fought what turned out to be a big sword for 2 hours before breaking it off 40 feet from the boat when the flouro chaffed off. With action for most of the trip plenty of meat in the boat and bad weather forecasted for the morning they came home early.
