Well - there were 25 or so boats yesterday and this morning right where we had been fishing largerly by ourselves since Saturday and that shut off the bite.

Only 1 yellowfin on my 48' Viking and a few on my 60' Ritchie.

It was fun while it lasted - we were fishing in with draggers that for some reason or another had been holding yellowfin. Below are some detailed reports.

But again today there are only coming back to the dock with a few fish and disappointed charters.

Canyon Runner 48 – 7/23 – 20 Yellowfin & 20 Bluefin

On Saturday, Capt Mark ran over the mother lode of fish on his way offshore out in the middle of nowhere – except for the scallopers. The only difference with this area is it was holding yellowfin. Fishing with the Tom Avena charter Captain Mark started fishing at 2pm and was done at 7pm. He caught 20 yellowfin all from 60-100 pounds. He also caught 20 bluefin all around 50 pounds. All these fish were caught on the chunk using sardines and butterfish.

Canyon Runner 60 – 7/23-24 – 25 Bluefin & 15 Yellowfin

Capt Kobey Treadwell was right in there on the scallopers with the Bill Duffy charter and had his 40 tuna but had more Bluefin then yellowfin. It was just a matter of which boat you were close to and which school of fish swam under the boat. Fishing from 2pm to 6pm they caught all Bluefin. Once the 48 left to go home the yellowfin swam under the 60’ Ritchie and they started to pick putting 9 in the boat by 10pm and then another 6 in the morning. Again, all the yellowfin were 60-100 pounds. All these fish were caught on the chunk using sardines and butterfish.

Canyon Runner 48 – 7/24-25 – 60 Bluefin 5 Yellowfin

Capt. Mark got right back at it on Sunday and ran into unrelenting bluefin. With 4 or 5 fish on at once the charter just rotated through the rods and each of the 6 man charter released exactly 10 bluefin each. But they spiced the trip up nicely with 5 yellowfin. Again – all the yellowfin were brusiers and all caught on the chunk!!!

Canyon Runner 60 – 7/24-25 – 25 Bluefin & 13 Yellowfin

On Sunday to Monday Capt. Phil Dulanie had the Jim Sutow charter out and they found the fish right where they had left them and immediately started catching as soon as the boat came off plane. It was yellowfins right off the bat with 9 in the boat before dark and a couple picked in the dark and in the morning and then the bluefins showed. In just 2 hours it was non-stop bluefin action with 25 coming to the boat.
