Canyon Runner report 9/ 16-17

Went on an open boat over nighter Tue. to Wed. with Capt. Mark DeBlasio on the 48' Viking. The plan was to go for yellow fins, but with the canyons being dead we went 40 miles out to the bft grounds. When we got there we started trolling and picked up a bunch of false albacor(we kept one for shark bait). After a while of trolling we ancored up on a lump that the 32' Canyon Runner had just left (KSONG was on that charter). There was alot of life out there from whales, birds, basking sharks, and schooles of bft boiling all around the boat. We had bft on both bait and jigs with consistant action threw out the night. This was a first for me, as I have never caught them at night. It was almost a full moon and very bright out, so maby that was the reason they were feeding at night. We also had a 180 lb mako hit a sardene on 80# floro that made a run, did an amasing jump and snap he was goon! The shark bait that was out all night kept getting short bit, so no hook ups there. When the fleet showed up in the morning the bite turned off, so we headed in with our limit of 1 over 47" and 1 under.

Kelly and I would realy like to thank Capt. Mark and his Crew. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot of helpful tricks from them.

Chris ... always a pleasure to have you and Kelly around .. that was one of the more consistent night bites I have had for bluefin .. have to believe the bright moon had something to do with that ... glad we were able to put together a catch for you guys .. still thinking about that mako
