I am sitting here watching the snow fall and thought I would post some recent reports from Morehead. Last week saw Dennis Braid join us for some stand-up bluefin fishing. Most of the week saw only one or two fish landed daily and we, unfortunately, were not one of the lucky boats to get a bite. After four days of fishing without a bite the pressure was really on. To add to my pressure, we were filming footage for "Monster Fish" and "The Quest for One" television shows. With one day of fishing to get the required footage, the talks on the boat were about changing the shows to focus on conservation. We set out in the dark on Saturday morning right around the knuckle and started marking bait. Working the bait pods as the sun came up , it finally happened. The deep rod went off and started pulling pretty good. Dennis went to work and put the heat to him. 16 minutes after the hookup we darted the fish and it was game over. Needless to say, we were all pretty happy. Sunday saw a decent bite all around us, but no love for us. The Regulator hooked up and fought the fish to the boat before pulling another hook with the leader out of the water. This game can and will drive the best crazy. Monday morning saw a very slow morning for the fleet with no fish landed. We worked away from the fleet and found a nice break and color change. Working this edge , our deep rod came tight around 10:30am. Initially the fish seemed small , but once getting close to the boat, it put on a good show. Once again the Poon finally found home and we put a fat 80" fish in the boat. That makes #7 for the season .. we'll keep at it until we have to come home on the 30th and hope for a few more. Here are a few pics ...
