Canyon Runner - It Keeps Getting Better - 15 Yellowfin & 600# Blue Marlin

Maybe Wednesday’s day troll on our 60’ Ritchie Howell tops the trips for the week – or maybe not – it depends if you like marlin fishing. With the Pete Guaditis charter on the boat, Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook headed to the Hudson Canyon for a one-day trolling trip. Arriving on the west wall around 5am they started in on a slow pick of yellowfin putting 5 in the boat by 7am and 14 in the boat by 9am. With the charter more than happy with that many tuna they released another for a total of 15 and then put out some bigger lures Capt. Hook brought back from his 8 years in Kauai, Hawaii – it worked. Within minutes of having out some of the bigger lures an abalone shelled kona head got popped from the rigger but no one saw the bite. Mike reeled in that lure to check it out and as soon as it was even with the long flat a big blue piled on the green streaker and it was game on.

Pete Guaditis fought her on a Penn International 50 and custom Canyon Runner rod from beginning to end and 1.5 hours into the battle she was along side the boat for pictures. Tossing the hook we removed from the mouth over her tail to get a measurement off the leader she taped out to 126 inches – not a bad fish – and Pete’s first ever so he went swimming back at the dock. Congratulations!!!

Take a look at her in the water - pictures taken by Josh Jedry

Thanks guys but it's the fishing that's red hot - we're just lucky to be out there everyday and running over them. Anyone sitting on the fence now is the time to go - both my boats had 15 more tuna each plus a 202# big-eye yesterday to today so the fishing just keeps on producing.

Of course the weather is not so hot - we just had to cancel for Friday-Saturday as the 60' Ritchie is out there right now and says its 6 foot but a tight swell with very little back to them and I only expect that to get worse with any wind over 10 knots so everyone be careful.

It's a co-op effort, the boat and everyone on it catch the fish as a team

A special thanks to Adam and all the guys on the Canyon Runner, we had a banner day right down to the barbecue we had while the lines were still in the water. It was definitely a day we will all never forget. Attached below are some more photos of that fish, unfortunately I don't have any of her jumping, we all kinda froze for a minute when she made her first appearance. If anyone is ever looking for a photographer, I specialize in anything saltwater, please feel free to email me with any and all questions.
