Well we finally did it - I personally lost one at the boat about 20 years ago - but today my boat (with me not on it) caught a giant tuna on a jig. Capt. Mark DeBlasio had our 60' Ritchie out in the deep again about 40 miles from Oregon Inlet and getting a late start due to fog got the lines in around 9am and shortly thereafter had a double header of nice size bluefin. While fighting the double they dropped down jigs and immediately hooked up.

They fought the trolled fish to the boat and boated a 67" fish and released another similar one. They then realized they were in for a battle as they couldn't budge one of the jigged fish. They were using Penn Bluewater Guide Jigging Rod (coming to the market in 2011) and a Penn International 16VSX - I believe they had a Canyon Runner Hammered Diamond jig as the lure.

Almost 4 hours later they had a fat 87-88" giant alongside the boat. According to Mark the fish was easily over 400 pounds. With our one and only trophy fish already boated earlier this week we release this one and it swim off in earnest seemingly no worse for wear.

Guys - here's Capt Mark's report - pictures still to come.

I am still amazed we could bring that fish to boat with a 16VSX and Penn rod .. the tackle held up beautifully and our angler held tight for the 3-1/2hr battle .. John , the jig was a Braid Slammer with an Owner treble .. I felt really good seeing this fish swim away so strongly after such a good fight ... aside from that , we caught some other bluefin , killing a 190lb fish and added a nice 71" fork length mako after spotting him swimming on the break ... a great day
