Canyon Runner Annual Military Veterans Trip - 3 Makos Over 200#/YFT/Mariln - Pictures

It only makes sense that US Warriors dominate one of the ultimate warriors of the sea – and that’s what happened on Saturday. Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. Deanne Lambros and Ryan DiBaggio took 6 real Heros – US Veterans (3 Marines, 1 Army and 2 Navy) – out on our annual July 4th FREE military trip leaving on July 3rd and returning on the 4th of July.

This is the third year in a row the Canyon Runner has honored our Nation’s Veterans the best way we can think of by taking them to the canyon. Not only that but Vinnie Raguso (Sportfishingusa on most web forums) donated a great barbeque meal and Andrew Joyce took care of the drinks.

We left the dock at Noon on Saturday and headed to the Lindenchol as we heard of some great trolling action down that way. We got there at 4pm and didn’t see much going on at the edge so we trolled out to the warm water only to have the yellowfin come up inshore on the bank. By the time we got in there we only pulled a couple yellowfin out of the bite before night fall. That said – the night was possibly one of the most eventful in a while.

Drifting the deep we had no less then 4 makos to the boat with 3 of them over 200 pounds. All 3 of those makos were leadered and one was killed – right around 200 pounds. Of the 3 one was also right at 200 and the other was around 250. We usually don’t see 3 over 200 in a year – amazing to see 3 in one night. I think fate had something to do with that as the soilders on the boat had a great time battling these beasts.

Up on the troll in the morning we nailed a nice white marlin and 20 pound mahi to finish up a 4 flag trip (5 including Old Glory).

I just want to personally thank the 6 great men that we took out – “Sirs - You the Man!!!”

    Ryan Schall – Navy
    Dave Wessner - Marines
    Scott Alpaugh – Army
    Pete Proietto – Marines
    Laurance Harris – Marines
    Paul Gregeitis - Navy
