Capt. Mark DeBlasio put together the second great overnighter to the canyon Saturday to Sunday with the Jim Matthews charter and Capt. Deanne Lambros and Capt. Ty McGowan in the pit.
Leaving in the early morning to get in on the Bluefin bite they arrived on the inshore grounds at 6am and in 3 hours of fishing were 5 for 8 on Bluefin. They left those ground just east of the Virginia and ran to the tip of the Hudson Canyon and put out the spread. Trolling on Saturday was not eventful for tuna but they did nail 9 really nice mahi up to 30 pounds.
It was the night bite that has us very excited. The party boats informed us that Friday night some of them had over 20 bites (one boat had 2 dozen yellowfin) so we were looking forward to it continuing into Saturday night and it did. The night started off slow but it steadly picked up and when the sun came up the charter had fought 16 big yellowfion and 2 longfin putting 10 yellowfin and 2 longfin in the boat.
Not done yet they trolled in the morning and around 9am hooked up to another blue marlin – that’s the 3rd hooked in 2 weeks but this one stayed hooked for an 1.5 hour battle and was brought alongside for pictures and the official release. It’s our 8th Blue Marlin of 2010. 3 tilefihs finished up the trip.
