Sorry for all the late reports but it’s been a crazy 4 days with nice weather and the boats going back to back to back and I haven’t had a second to get to the reports. I also didn’t get the pictures until just today so I waited to put these up. On Tuesday, Capt. Mark Jankowski, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook to the Jim Sutow charter and his 2 sons 17 & 18 years old out on the 60’ Ritchie Howell. They got down to the Toms Canyon late in the afternoon and set up on the troll at 7pm. They did pick a quick double on yellowfin before setting up for the night. The night bite was very slow with only 1 yellowfin coming to gaff.
Up on the troll in the morning they had the pleasure of watching the 48’ Canyon Runner put a beating on marlin and tuna but they couldn’t get a bite. So they left the Toms and trolled up the edge towards the Hudson. The West Wall looked dead and they were about to head inshore for Bluefin when a friend of our on a green stick boat called us over to the 100-square. We were the only 2 there (very different then what was there the last 3 days with crowds killing the bite). With 2 boats only working the area and the fish around it didn’t take long. The fist shot was the biggest fish that ate a new Canyon Runner lure we’ve been playing with and will introduce this fall. Over an hour later the gaff was sunk and it was in the boat. They ran back to the square and put out the lines and it didn’t take long but 3 more eye-balls ate and 2 came tight. Jim already had his shot on the first fish so his sons took there shot and landed the next two in short order.
The fish weighed in at 207, 195, and 170 pounds – not a bad way to bail out the trip!!
