Canyon Runner 60 Ritchie - Biggest Blue of Year - 700+ Pounds & 30 Yellowfin

Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took the Mike Lilonsky charter out with his sons and had the trip of a lifetime. Heading right to the tip of the Hudson they didn’t find any life so they worked offshore around the bend from the 100-square and found the motherload. Their first shot was 4 yellowfin but they didn’t repeat so they moved off, the 48’ came in to that spot and started beating on the fish so the Ritchie Howell turned around came back and it was lights out fishing. Trolling from 6-9pm they totaled 22 yellowfin in the 40-70 pound class. They started releasing fish once they hit 14 but before they did they tagged a bunch of them for science.

With that many fish already under their belts they set up for swording at night, turned on the Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizer as it was a little snappy at night – but felt flat calm with the Stablizer so the charter fell fast asleep and caught up on their rest as they’d need it in the morning. However, even with just one bait out for tuna they chunked 4.

Up on the troll in the morning they got up to an even 30 yellowfin – while again trying to run away from them to catch a big-eye or blue. They only had out 5 rods (our normal pattern is 13-14 rods) when what they wanted showed up. Eating a specially modified Green Machine – The Meatball Model – they had a long drawn out fight with a fish that was clearly bigger then the 600 pounder we tapped out at the boat last week.

Two hours on a Penn International 50VSW Capt. Mike took a wrap – Capt. Hook told him not to let go – he didn’t. But before they could get a measurement the leader broke in his hand and the fish swam away strong.

Capt. Hook fished Hawaii for 8 years – caught about 175 Blue Marlin there – saw dozens weighed – and confirms what Phil and Mike both thought – today’s Blue Marlin was easily over 700 pounds!!!

    Personal Note:

I have to say – I don’t think we’ve ever had a better day on our two boats with 68 big yellowfin tuna a Giant Bluefin Tuna and a Blue Marlin Over 700 Pound. Congratulations Phil, Mark, Mike, Hook, Ryan and Deanne – it doesn’t get any better – enjoy it!!!

    Upcoming Charters:

Guys - believe it or not even with this unreal fishing I just had a charter come available for this Saturday-Sunday on the 48' Canyon Runner and another come available for July 27-28 on the 60' Ritchie Howell. Both are available as charters had to cancel at the last minute so I can give you a discount if interested. Please call 732-272-4445.

Damn, you guys are finding some real nice blues in amongst all those tunas. Shame you didn't get a photo of this one to add to the great shots of the other blue marlin you've had this season! And you're getting them on stand up tuna tackle too! Now that's pretty work!

The charter has some video that I'm waiting on and some photos from their IPhones but I'm not that confident they will be any good. We'll see - I'll post what I get.

Thanks - we have plenty of video but no time to upload it. 30 hour overnighters back to back require a ton of work during, after and before and the videos take a back seat for now.

We are putting together a bunch of stuff for our Seminar Series this winter though.

By the way -the fishing is still red hot. Both boats got out last night and in 1 hour already have 6-7 fish each.
