Canyon Runner 60' Ritchie - 4 Trips - 6th Blue Marlin, Whites, Sword Toms of Tuna

I know I’ve been bad keeping up with the reports so I’ll put a bunch all in this post. Starting on July 30-31 Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took out the Len DeGilio charter out to the Hudson Canyon but stopped inshore around the Chicken and got into a nice pick of fish on the troll catching a dozen Bluefin with one up to 80 pounds and one under and releasing the rest. They then ran out to the Hudson Canyon and picked away at yellowfin in the afternoon and night chunk. They caught a total of 20 yellowfin but only 3 were nice fish and the rest were released. They finished up with another stop inshore and caught another 8 bluefin for a total of 20 bluefin, 20 yellowfin and missed a couple white marlin.

On Saturday Capt. Mike Zajac, Capt. Mark Jankowski, and Capt. Hook took the Pat Ferris charter out to the Hudson Canyon and they picked away at yellowfin the whole trip. It was a flat out hot bite though and trolling and chunking only saw 8 yellowfin boated with 5 nice ones kept and 3 thrown back. They bailed out the trip by running inshore by the Chicken Canyon and trolling and jigging 12 bluefin keeping one.

On Sunday Capt. Phil Dulanie had the Mike Cammanzo charter out with Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook also running the boat. They fished the Toms Canyon and got into a nice pick of white marlin going 3 for 4. At night on the chunk they nailed our second sword of the season – this one about 100 pounds and picked 4 nice yellowfin on the troll as well.

On Monday, August 2 Capt. Joe Miele jumped on board for the boats 4th overnighter in a row and with Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook still running strong they left for the Toms Canyon at 7pm getting to the edge in the dark. The night bite only saw a bunch of mahis caught at first light and nothing else. Up on the troll they quickly boated 2 nice yellowfin and at 7am had a nice billfish crush our new Canyon Runner 14” lure and the fight was on. 1 hour later another blue marlin was laying alongside the boat – this one about 375 pounds. That makes it 6 blue marlin for the year and 4th alone on the 60’ Ritchie Howell.

Enjoy the Pictures!! And if you still want to get out with us this year we are booking the last week of September and all of October now so please call me 732-272-4445.

Here's a neat set of shots from the 3 marlin day - check out the confused shearwater.

Man! The pic where the shearwater is sticking it's head underwater is special on so many levels. Incredible!
