    Canyon Runner - 50 Yellowfin Chunked/13 - 70-80# Yellowfin Trolled/Sword - Pics

    60 Canyon Runner 8/30-31 - 13 Big Yellowfin and 8 Big Bluefin

Capt. Mark DeBlasio had the Rich O'Day charter out Sunday to Monday and stopped at the Chicken to bring 8 nice bluefin to the boat in the 50 pound class. They left them biting at 4pm and headed to the South Toms where they put it on the troll nailing a 80 pound yellowfin between the South Toms and Carteret in the deep so they drifted there for the night. They added a small yellowfin at night and lost a big shark or sword when the 400# flouro broke.

Up on the troll in the morning they got into a great yellowfin bite going 11 for 15 on BIG yellowfin. All the yellowfin in the morning were in the 70-85 pound class. They were all over the Canyon Runner rainbow squid and green machine spreader bars most of the morning with some of the most incredible bites we've seen in a long time. All this action was between the South Toms and the Carteret Canyon in 600 feet of water.

48 Canyon Runner 8/30-31 - 50 Yellowfin on the Chunk 100# Sword and 5 Bluefin

Capt. Phil Dulanie and Mark Decabia took the Tim O’Conner charter out on 48 Canyon Runner Sunday into Monday and found plenty of bluefin inshore at about 50 miles at the Chicken Canyon. They made some drifts and pitched sardines and hooked up with quite a few landing 5 in the 45" to 46.5" class. After about 3 hours of that they ran to the Carteret Canyon and put her on the troll.

On the afternoon troll they raised 4 white white marlin and hooked up with a blue marlin at sundown on a Canyon Runner Squid Bar that proceeded to dumped 400 yards of line and jump off.

After setting up for the night chunk the deep sword rod went off at 9:30 and after a 25 minute battle that included two jumps one right next to the boat ended with a beautiful 64” inch 100 lb swordfish on the deck. A good start of the night was a foreshadowing of the best chunking of the year. At about 1 am we started reading lots of life 50-120 feet. We were not getting anything on our baits so we dropped some jigs and it was game on.

We proceeded to jig all the 20-40 pound yellowfins you could want. By about 3:30am we caught approximately 50 yellowfins on the jigs keeping our limit and releasing the rest and the 4 guys on the charter had enough. We called it a night and ran back to Manasquan early.

6 Canyon Runner Trips on both boats August 24-27

We ran all last week from Monday through Thursday before taking Friday and Saturday off due to the storm and had some of the best bluefin fishing of the year. In total each boat ran an overnighter Monday to Tuesday and then two day trips Wednesday and Thursday and we caught close to 100 bluefin in those trips with the best being a Thursday trip on the 60’ Ritchie Howell with the Tom Malan charter that with short drifts in the Chicken Canyon brought to the boat 38 bluefins. All the fish have been caught making drifts over readings and then chunking and drifting back sardines. A few of the fish were caught on jigs but bait was the ticket all last week.

I ALSO WANT TO LET EVERYONE KNOW WE HAVE 2 SPOTS OPEN ON AN OPEN BOAT TRIP FOR NEXT TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 8-9 ON OUR 48. COST IS $750 PER PERSON -- PLEASE EMAIL ME AT ADAM@CANYONRUNNER.COM FOR INFO OR CALL ME AT 732-272-4445.

Way to get on them. Question, looking at the temperature charts and water flows, can you explain what you saw if anything that had you decide to go there, or was it reports from the commercial guys that led you there? Or am I simply thinking to much about this. LOL
