Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Deane Lambros had the Peter Schoels charter who booked both boats our Wednesday and they ran to the Hudson Canyon. Fishing around the turn to the east on just what turned out to be a day troll due to bad weather coming in for the night they picked away at 8 yellowfin and released a white marlin. Canyon Runner 48 7/15-16 40 Yellowfin (25 Between 40-50 pounds)/Big Mahi/White Marlin
Capt. Mark and Capt. Deane put together the best trip of the year thus far on Friday into Saturday. They left the dock Friday morning and made a straight shot to the 100-square only to find the area lifeless. They moved offshore and east and found what they were looking for but only a slow pick. They held tight to the area and were rewarded when after 2pm the fish started to turn on. From 2pm to 9pm they boated 36 yellowfin including 25 of which that were 40-50 pounds and the rest 20-30 pounds. They also added a bunch of huge mahi and had a white marlin release. At night they added to their totals by chunking another 4 nice size yellowfin. Ending the trip with 40 to their name. They released most only keeping around 18. They went home at first light.
Canyon Runner 48 7/16-17 - 16 yellowfin ( 9 between 30-55lbs)/2 Bluefin/Mahi
Capt. Mark and Dean immediately turned around and went right back offshore on Saturday hoping to get right back on the hot bite but the crowd of boats out there on a gorgeous forecast killed it. They worked the same area that produced so many fish just 24 hours early to no avail. They had a very slow pick on Saturday only ending with a couple keeper and a couple throwbacks. At night they had a few more fish on the chunk.
Up on the troll in the morning they again had a few fish but nothing to write home about until they turned it towards the Chicken to go Bluefin fishing. They ran in, stopped well short in and only 2 hours trolled 5 yellowfin in the 50 pound class and 2 bluefin in the 50 pound class (keeping 1). The ended up with 16 yellowfin, the Bluefin and nice mahi.
