Finally back out tonight after days at the dock watching the weather blow. Here is a more detailed report of the last few days before the blow.
In the last two trips on the 48’ Canyon Runner, Capt. Mark DeBlasio with Ryan DiBaggio and Deanne Lambros in the cockpit put a hurting on the yellowfin on the chunk. On Friday, August 20 with the John Dale charter the crew boated 31 yellowfin out of 40 bites. They released a bunch keeping less then there limit. They turned right around on Saturday August, 21 with the Tim Gross charter and by the morning of the 22nd they were already finished fishing.
The yellowfin came on around 11pm Saturday night and it was non-stop fishing until they could reel no more. By 3am they had 21 yellowfin to the boat and kept half and released half.
All these yellowfin are 50-70 pounds and are putting on a great show for the charters. They are fishing the Hudson Canyon on the west wall in 450-550 feet of water on the hook. Many of the fish have succumbed to Canyon Runner hammered diamond jigs and Braid glow jigs in addition to sardines and live squid.
Not many fish were trolled on those two trips – in fact just 2. The same was not the case for the 60’ Ritchie Howell who on Saturday night quickly picked 3 yellowfin on the chunk only to not get another bite the rest of the trip. They did however troll 5 yellowfin and finished up with 8 for the trip.
Both boats are finally back out tonight and hoping that the bite is back on since sitting at the dock during this northeast blow the last 4 nights.
