Someone asked the other day...how we came up with the name for the rods.."WinStar".

    Pretty simple actually..

    Winthrop Tool Guides

    CalStar rod blanks

    WinStar....

    tidbit...of useless info

If your remotely thinking about new rods...trust me..there are No better guides on the market than these new Express guides for the price for either GBT fishery or the Big Marlin fishery..for the money.

Freddie Malcarne..who owns Winthrop Tool is a personal friend of mine..we have fished many times up north in the Canyons together...Fred realized he had to "compete"..so the Xpress line of guides was born from the success of the XCell line of his original guides...I can tell you Fred is a fisherman first and a machineist second, he has put his time and money into this product...We could have easily built these GBT rods' for Mike with the tried and true ExCell guides...but I trust Fred and told him we need a guide that is more inline with AFTCO, which he knew, so here it is guys...the better of the best...WT Express guides and CanyonGear...Angler's Envy Rods..

A 340# Spro swivel goes thru these guides like butter and larger is certainly well within the capability of the diameter of the guide opening...

do yourself a favor...trade in..sell or whatever..but get a set of these rods...

These are not stump pullers of the past, they are dialed into the size fish with the foregiveness of the quality CalStar blanks as a foundation they are built on...If and when you watch the video..pay close attention to how the rod flexes with each pull and head shake ....never letting the fish get slack or jerk the line...NO pulled hooks..yep I said it...big statement...but that's why they were built this way...

The first pic is the new "Xpress" guides the rest of the pics are the original "Excell" guides, Tip Tops etc.

Those guides are awesome, been dreaming of buying a set for a few years now.

Maybe when I win the lotto and build my 42 Wesmac.
