Over the last couple weeks i've been running ragged. I've been canyon fishing at every possible break in the weather, plus tournament/charter striper fishing in between. Plus a million other things i haven't had a chance to post one of my best accomplishments in a while. Last week (or the week before i can't remember) we slaughtered everything around the Tom's. We started with a couple tuna fish, followed by a couple dolphin, then boated a nice sword around 100 lbs. Then the big boy (or girl) came and i hooked up a nice sword. I had yet to fight a fish (being a good crew member) but people got scared of this fish and i ended up fighting her. 2 1/2 hours later and a beautiful harpoon shot, ther lay a 300 lbs swordie. My personal biggest by at least 125 lbs. High fives and cold beers later, we cleared up the deck and continued fishing. We had a pod of about 80 mahi hang around the boat from 1am until sun up. They were all nice fish but we couldn't get a tuna bait past them. The only logical solution is to thin the herd to try and get tuna baits through them to the yellowfin and longfins we can see swimming in the lights. when their ranks were thinned to 45, we could successfully get tuna baits down and continued picking away at tuna. The only thing that stopped our tuna fishing was an unnatural desire to go catch tilefish (they're so tasty how could you NOT want them) We went to our super secret tile areas and managed to pull 13 off the bottom up to 49.8 lbs!! All in all a great day with 2 swords, 9 tuna, 35 mahi and 13 tiles.
I'm headed back off in the morning hopefully there are a couple hungry fish out there still.
Here's some pics
