Canaries

Our intrepid globe trotting Capt. Jason Brice (skipper of Casa Vieja’s “Twenty”) reports from Canary Islands:

Last week on the “Rigel IV” - Day 1- 0-0, day 2- 1-1, day 3- 1-4, day four (1/2day) 1-1. No big fish, but everybody seems to be seeing fish everyday. Awaiting our boat the “Freespool” to be delivered. It’s a 36 Guthrie.

There were some good fish caught today. The “Hedonist” caught one 920#, with John Phillips. The “Bocinegro” released a big one as well, with Tim Choate.

Nothing to do with me, Jeff.

Will Smith is obviously to blame for these reports. He'd fit in well with Tim and Horse. Not sure he'd win, either...... Good to see Manolo catch a nice one, though heaven knows why they weighed it.....

Roddy,

Jason is one fine fisherman. Good to hear that he's got a new ride coming, although there was nothing wrong with the present one, especially with him onboard.

He's the father of that T-Man lure that we have talked about a time or two and will get that credit if we figure out how to make it. Very innovative fellow.

Good to hear old Tim's name too. New venue for him, or is he just being a traveling man? Say "howdy" for me if you yak with him. A true circle hook pioneer, that one.

Hi Fred,

Tim's been going there for ages. Manolo used to be a regular to the F&F lodge and the association has continued for many years. The very first time I rolled into one of the Canaries back in 2000, I tied up the ropes in some dusty marina, looked up, and saw Tim and Horse looking down at me, grinning.

I knew I was done for..... I also knew I had to be somewhere nice to fish too !!

Huh? Sorry, but Roddy has nothing to do with this report. This is from Jason Brice, not Jason Pipe. Too many Jason's.

Which islands get the good fishing? I have family in Tenerife and would like to do some fishing while visiting.

Nice try - blaming it on Herb, this is AL - always has been!

Today's report has the owners fishing on the Freespool raising 7, had 4 bites and caught 2. Jon Phillips and Tim Choate caught 6 on a boat called Atlantis. Everybody saw a bunch of fish.

Capt. Brice continues: "We finally took delivery of our boat the Freespool - 39 Guthrie on Wednesday and started fishing today (01 July) with the owner and his son. Raised 7 blues, hooked 4, caught 2.

Jon Phillips and Tim Choate fishing from the Atlantis caught 6. Everyone saw bunches of breaking marlin."

Jason says Elias Rodriguez is there and catching BIG fish:

"I believe he (Elias) caught the 920# on the boat, Hedonist. Caught one 400, and pulled the hook(leader wrapped on the bill) on one 600+ yesterday. The day before caught 2- one was 500 and the about 350."
