    Can I Hang Out Here?

Good forum idea. I've made 2 recent attempts at swords in the Norfolk Canyon. First trip cranked in big sharks throughout the night. This last weekend, we had a big sword on briefly early in the evening. He hit a squid at 150 feet down and rather than run down or out, he came up to the boat. We saw a green light dashing about our lightline. Then we saw a huge sword was dragging our glow stick around. Holy crap...crank up the slack fast. But while he was dashing about, he wrapped his bill around the mainline and he was gone before we could come tight. Thought I'd hang around here to learn a few things so I can get my sword on my 3d trip.

    Mike, great question

I am far from an expert catching only having 2 under my belt so far so i will leave the catching techniques to others

The guy's down in Florida have it perfected and have a lot of fish hanging out to get multiple shots

One thing that I would like to recommend and is my specialty is the POON shot
it is a good idea to have a harpoon on board if you are not tournament fishing , it is the easiest way to finish off a large sword and is a tried and true technique and in addition is the safest way to subdue one of these baseball bat wielding fish

I bet Deep C will have some input regarding catching as well as others that have gone over to the Dark Side

    Fish Dad-
I just checked out the report on that link and I've got to say that is one of the best I've read. Great detail and nice pictures to go along with it! Like the other guys here said, I hope you stick around and share some of these adventures with us here on SFC.

One thought on "the one that got away", did you try backing the drag down and letting the fish run? We have been doing that in the last few years on gbft, and it can work wonders. It changes the angle of the line an tires them out at the same time.

Anyway, I look forward to many more of your posts, and good luck with the sword mission- I would love to get one of those some day.

    Pup Sword

Friday night we did manage to bring a pub sword to the side of the boat but he pulled the hook before we could snap a pic. Here is my report.
