Can anybody help me...? Marlin at Mauritius and the catch-factors

Marlin at Mauritius and the catch-factors.

    Hi guys,

I need your help. Yesterday, I talked with Robert Rein about the possible factors of catching Marlin at Mauritius and he has a very interesting thesis. This thesis based on the moon, tides and so on.

He has a lot of plausible Catching-Reports collected, but to make the results meaningful, there are further informations needful.

Is here anybody, who ever caught a Marlin at Mauritius?

We were very glad If you could help us and tell us the following Catching-details:

    Name of the Angler
    Date of the catch
    Size
    Catching-Time
    Lineclass
    Name of the boat

Of course, we will public the results, when there are a representive number.

    I thank you a lot,

    Uwe

I have been to Mauritius twice... Both times staying in the north section at Grand Baie area. actually a resort a few KM south called La Victoria. I was there in January of 1997 and December of 1999.
On the first trip , we chartered a poorly rigged vessel from near the resort and scored one small blue marlin of roughly 100 kilos fishing basically west of Gand Baie. If I recall the moon was roughly half and rising, The exact date escapes me. We alsoc caught numerous skip jack tuna that day.
In the town of Gand Baie there was a more substantial charter fleet basically at the town center. Three times I was there for their return. I saw also a total of four blue marlin and two sailfish brought to the dock. The marlin weighed from 80-150 kilos.
THe rest of our trip we explored light tackle fisheries for reefspecies of ffish using small live baits.

In 1999 I fished the same area for two days catching one sailfish of probably 35 kilos.
At the other end I was invited to fish another boat. A finely rigged boat called Thalhassa based at the Black River big game club. We had a fish of over four hundred kilos that day(891lbs) and another over 100 (231). At the club house I was impressed with the wall depicting "granders" I think I saw 26? over 1000pounds mark taken by their members there.
Im sorry that I can't reclall what the moon phase was.

One disturbing thing I saw on both trips was that there was no release of anything. Every last fish was kept to be sold as food. Even the Airline, Air Mauritius, Served smoked marlin sandwiches on their flight...

I should have added that I am a lure maker and was ineterested to see that the most productive lures I saw there were "short pull design" that design being one with a shorter than normal head length.

Our masher series is our #1 seller but there they preferred the Garnder Grabber which is same design but shorter head length. There were also popular local lures called Mauritan "exocet" that produced well. Another popular design was African Queen from South Africa... All three feature slanted heads...

Very, very interesting. I want to visit Mauritius next year. Ok, it will be a familyholiday, but three or four days I want to fish too.
