Calstar Rods

Just wondering how many guys here on the east coast have fished or use Calstar rods either trolling or standup chunking etc.

Have fished a few and have started to like them more and more. They seem to be one of the go to rods on the west coast for tuna fishermen.

I used the blanks for 1 or 2 of my chunkin rods and they had some nice lifting power to them.

i have built seeker and calstar.i like both, getting a little older the seekers are a little more "back friendly".but with eyes closed most guys wont know the them apart when pulling on them.i like the EX series seekers..the 6460XXH looks like it is going to be a great bait rod also the TSF60XXH.The CTSF60XXH is lighter and alittle more$$.but pulls a ton............................for short standups i got the 6455XXH and the BajaBoomer to try...i got some i think 24"fore grips with the finger groves....cant go wrong with either...................but with that said i use Hastings blanks for my own stuff

I think Calstar is the way to go .. I have 6455xh, 6455xxh , graphighter 760h, and the entire Boomer series. I think for what we do on the east coast, the boomer series is the best .. my blank of choice for a 50W set up would be the Boomer Jr .. as for Hasting/ GUSA , I have had used 4 of their blanks and 3 broke .. the last one scaling the drag. It broke at 11lbs ... sure they warranty em , but who wants to rebuild rods all the time or lose a fish of a lifetime because of that

Paul . . it was a shame that blank broke .. Billy put a lot of time into it. Maybe it's just the Predator lite that has a problem .. I just got a few Cosmotech blanks for jigging .. will build them over the winter. The calstars have done me well over the years and I really like the Boomer series. I thought we would fish together this season , but it doesnt look that way .. lets try to do it next season.

Mark - is the boomer series a black blank?

As for breaking at 11 lbs, wow you are right its heart breaking to see all the hours of hard work go by the wayside when it breaks and to possibly lose the fish of a lifetime.

Mark,i am waiting maybe get a early start next year....that blank was a new a version.who knows. i havent heard WHY yet. it did feel nice when i was pulling on it. I have the full size Predator blank cut down to a little over 6' with the acid rollers.need to try a GOOD fish on that.. If you get a chance give the Seeker CTSF60XXH a try..i pulled on it very light and powerful. i may pick one up in a week or so.i had already been thru the Shikaria, lamiglas,St croix, calstar, and most of the seeker sections. BEFORE i got to try it..just spent to much for THAT day .
