I need to start by letting everyone know I am not a report writer so bare with me...
I was in Cabo for a wedding and I made sure I was able to get a day of fishing in. I booked this trip 3-4 months ago. Reports leaving up to my departure had been less than ideal. I stuck to my guns and I was fishing regardless. I was already anticipating a skunk so I mentally prepared myself. My girlfriend had never been fishing before so I was hoping she would enjoy herself and not get sick. Well she is ready to go again!!!
We met Capt. Ramon and mate Fernando around 6:30 A.M. and hopped aboard the Dream Weaver. It is a 32ft Blackfin
The famous arch...
Capt. Ramon
They ran a 5 rod spread with an a pitch bait standing by. All rods had lures except the shotgun. It was a dead bait split tailed and weighted. I forget the name of the live bait. It started with a "C" in Spanish.
Around 8:30 the shotgun starts singing... Fernando and Ramon went to work. Ramon was working the shotgun and Fernando sent out the pitch bait. Fernando hooked the fish and I threw Katti in the chair.
20 minutes later we had our first striped marlin estimated at 150lbs.
A quick photo and then a clean release
A while later I got my shot. Mine lasted a good 45 minutes. Had the fish to leader twice and then he took a run. Another quick photo and he was back swimming.
I got the third to the boat in about 10 minutes. Another clean release.
We spotted a fourth and had her hooked for about a minute then she came unbuttoned.
Turned back to the barn. Final tally was 3 for 4 on stripes. It was a fantastic day. Ramon and Fernando were great. I took some video. I haven't had a chance to view it or edit. If any of it came out I will post it as well.
Before we called it a day we had one more treat. Fernando showed us how close the sea lions come to the boat. I will let the photos speak for themselves... Keep in mind we are still on plane coming into the marina
So if your heading to Cabo and need a charter look to the Dream Weaver. Top notch!
