Burns Wahoo Bomb ??

Has anyone tried the Burns Wahoo bomb. Do they work?
If you had to choose just 2 colors what would they be?

JMSWilm and myself fished with a guy two springs ago that put one out in the chart.yellow and green color w/o the wire and immediately picked up two YF tuna. One on the bomb and one on the shotgun bait which was not a bomb.

Neat looking lure. I remember reading "wahoo bomb" on the side of the rig while the guy was tying in the planer set-up with a rubber band release. Ended up losing one of the tuna by me pulling too hard on the leader to get him to the gaff. Sorry about that JMS.

They are awesome lures for multiple species. I have used them on the west coast but we are using them as a casting lure. You can throw them a mile and then reel like hell.

Aloha!

I caught wahoo on different versions of those about 12 years ago in NC.

I found a Bead diamond jig to be just as effective if you have plenty of experience with a diamond jig & most important the right rod & reel

The design is shaped for the high speed atacker to have a straight dropping target. Ya Know like a straight running green machine,,same concept that works.

West Coasters allso started designing diamond jigs that slid up the line like a trolling lure. This was because some big fish got away when using a diamond jig due to the lures own weight being used against the hook with a violent head shake. King salmon fishermen tried lighter versions because the fish mouth was very soft and the weight of the jig could tear the hook out...So that's why they slide, fo' da head shakes

The mylar is attached because it is a common product used on party boats and it was discovered by some sharpie that the extra flash of the mylar got the attention of the 'hoo better than the jig. BTW West Coasters have plenty of painted jigs on board, not just chrome like East Coasters. It is believed that the flash is the key

The spinner was added by another sharpie on a party boat to add even more flash and possibly vibration, but I think more important a fluttering wounded falling look of an easy snack that a preditor from above let slip by. The spinner on the bomb has stood the test of time. It is not a gimick. When ya see it on a trolling lure I wonder if that is a gimick because if it was working the socal guys would have picked up on it, They are a pretty sharp bunch

The wahoo bomb is fished the same ways as a diamond jig. I have caught plenty of wahoo on diamond jigs but unfortunately have lost a few due to their head shake and the hook coming out. The bite to boat ratio with the bombs is much much higher.

Color wise it doesn't matter if yer the only one tossing them. Stick with blue silver with a few pink strands if they got that. if yer on a party boat in Baha ya need an assortment to keep up with the sharpies. Don't leeve home without one Tony Tiger design due to the macs over there. It don't work good on the East though.

They are good for dropping 100 feet down in N.C. during the summer duldrums when the fish seek the cool water under the thermal cline

cheers
