    Building a spreader bar

Using a 36 inch titanium bar that will make 5 rows. Thinking of using 9 inch squids; two rows of 5 and a row of 3 then one followed by a lure with a hook. Should I use a little lead in the heads ??? What colors do you all like for the squids ??? I will be targeting marlin, dorado and yf tuna in the Mexican Pacific.

Zummie, Great off season project you are undertaking. Take your time in the planning stages and things are more likely to work out. I can tell you from experience that you definitly want a weight in the stinger. The weight will add stability to the stinger so that it tracks truer in the water. Makes for less missing on the predators part. As for the teaser baits, they are often rigged with floats that will keep the whole rig floating when you are fighting a fish on another line. If you visit our site you will even pick up some more tips. As for color, I do not think you can go wrong with zuchinni or rainbow. Good luck!

Your bars look great and the prices are really reasonable; I am going to pick one up before my next trip. Curious though, why not put a little weight in the teasers so they run a little under the water?

I think you might want them to splash so it looks like a school fo showering bait. Also the splashing will help hide all your terminal tackle that is in the water, Bar, leaders, hooks things of that nature.I also think floro carbon could help. Go light on the side chains on the bar, not to lite because they will tangle and become a head ache. then make the center chain withthe hook alittle heavyer. I always like 80 on the sides and 100 or 130 on the center with a 9" squid. Also you can adjust the distance the first squid in each chain starts from the bar. In the short rigger this makes alot of differance cause you can get the bar out of the water and keep all the squids in the water. If im confusing you I cand explain alittle more.

Makes a lot of sense. Should I put a Styrofoam packing bead in each squid head to help them float or is leaving them with nothing enough to float ??

One idea I read about was to use wooden beads instead of lead, the wood adds weight but also gives them some buoyancy should splash well.

Good idea. There is a bead store near my business that has thousands of different sizes and shapes. I like that idea.

IMO....SQUIDS SPLASHING MORE OUT OF THE WATER ARE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN IN THE WATER.....

THE LITTLE WEIGHT YOU SPEAK OF IS NO MORE THAN A MERE STOPPER IMO... SO CRIMP AND USE A BEAD OR OVAL CORK AS A STOPPER

    GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT!!!
