    Broadbill off Florida

So, I'm looking to replace the boat I sold last year and am thinking about something that will be good for swordfishing. We're have been talking about doing some night swordfishing off florida this year. I know a guy who catches a few, but he really opened my eyes when he told he thinks very few people catch more than a few.

Essentially, he told me that unless you're Ray Rosher or Bouncer Smith, you're probably catching 2-3 fish a year at most. With the nuisance of fishing at night, the iffy weather and finding a partner to go along, people tend to get one or two and then hang it up.

He had a great line: "The 'Experts' have all caught 3 fish or less this year. The beginners have caught less than 6 and the very few guys who have caught more than that keep their mouths shut."

So, let me ask: Has anyone here caught more than 5 Broadbill in the past two years?

I catch them on a regular basis...

Ray has a good following and he catches fish so do a lot of guys. best if your looking to go charter one of us and learn what you can up front. Do yourself a big favor though and buy a good fighting belt / butt harness set up, gloves, a good hat light and a duffle bag with extra clothes and zip locks. I catch though and some of us are good.

Is this a question about boats or how many swords a expert vs. a non-expert can catch ?

    Since your name is Wauwinet...

...are you going to keep your boat on Nantucket and fish for them up here, or are you going to keep the boat in Florida???

While the numbers may be a "little off" this year, that is mostly due to the lack of effort in the late summer/early fall due to high fuel costs.

I assure you, we are still catching just as many whenever we go. All you have to do is got out and put in your time. You can expect to catch a fish or two a night anytime the conditions are right and several bites a night is not uncommon.

I know many people who are still mad at swordfish who fish every night the weather lets them and they catch 2-3 fish a night regularly and you've never heard of them.

I'm still holding steady at about a 75-80% success rate personally.

I think it's about the same through out Fl. in 3 trips we caught 10 out of 13 fish and killed 1.
