Bottomin' Out On The Break

Sorry I haven't posted a report in a while. For those of you who are as addicted to bottom fishing as I am, the bite has been awesome off of Southport, Holden Beach, NC area. I have been running to the break, the Black Jack and Steeples areas especially, targeting grouper and beeliners. With the full moon, the beeliner bite has been off during the day, but the red and scamp grouper bite has been on fire, as well HUGE triggerfish. The grouper have been from 8 lbs. on up to 20 lbs, and the triggers have been from 3-8 lbs, including several queen triggers. The bait of choice has been whole spanish sardines for the grouper, and small pieces of cut boston mackerel for the triggers. There has been a decent bite of nice wahoo from 30 -80 lbs. in the same areas. If you have never tried bottom fishing off the NC coast in 180-300 ft, you need to give it a try. The fishing is as good as gets, with limits most every day. It is great to do a mixed-bag trip for wahoo and bottom fish the same day. There have also been a few blackfin and straggler sails mixed in with the wahoo. Tired of doing doughnuts for giants, head for the break. It doesn't get any better than this.

Unfortunately, I had a camera malfunction, but will be going back out tomorrow, so will try to get some pics then. I haven't been doing anything but bottom fishing, so I should definitly have some grouper and trigger pics. The wahoo and sail have been caught by other boats, namely Kendall on the Fishin' Physician. Is this Scott? This is Lyndon that has been running the It Works for Brant the last couple of years.
