I have always had trailer boats and have been doing it a long time.Currently I trailer a 31 Cape horn.It can be a Pain IN DA A$$ you have to know where you are going and know where you can stop for fuel etc.You will not have near the problems with a 28' boat.I recommend a custom aluminum trailer there are plenty of good ones out there.A tandem axle is the way to go triples don't turn or back up worth a damn.A aluminum tandem can handle your load no problem as long as it's built right. With larger boats such as yours bunks are the only way to go you can spray the bunks with silicon spray I've never needed it.Get a trailer you wont be sorry next week we are taking my boat to hatteras the ability to chase the bite is great. If y0ou have any questions or need any help feel free to contact me.
P.S.Maintanence is everything on trailers be prepared for roadside difficulties they will happen. |

I've got a 27 contender that I regularly trailer 400+miles on a weekend. I've been to Fla keys from NC a couple of times (18 hrs)
1. not difficult at all if you learn what you are doing. 2. A tandem works fine. 3. don't know, I've only had tandem 4. Bunks are much better. I've had both. Make sure you get a spare wheel and bearings and you'll be fine. |

Wahoo was right 5 stars not bad for a first post.
Looks like there are a lot opinions out there. Quality is the one common denominator that we can all agree on. Will likely go with the trailer as detailed in the original post. Hi Tech Marine makes a quality trailer from what I hear and read. |

Triple Axle aluminum Bunk Trailer. I have a 28'6 Southport I pull from Va Beach to Hatteras and Oregon Inlet until the fish get up this way. No problem with the ramps in OI or Hatteras. I've had 2 axle roller and 3 axle bunk and the triple axle is way more stable and pulls alot easier on the highway...Bunks are much nicer than rollers and easier on the hull for sure....Trailering is great...allows you to chase the bite !.....Get guides also....very nice to have....Bob

Triple axle will pull easier and wont move around as much on you. Rollers are easier to unload but are a pain when the rollers start needing to be replaced and they can hard to load sometimes and don't support the hull as good as a bunk trailer. I would go with a cable on the winch but keep a spare winch with you. I have broken one and it wasn't fun hauling it to the closest store to get a new one. Triple axles will cost more but also will have a lot higher resale if you ever decide to sell it.

Ordered the new trailer got it as detailed above. Will take delivery on March 12 and be down south by first or second week of April. Looking forward to the NC thing as I have never fished this area. My brother and I will be looking to hook up with a local or two to enhance the experience.
Thanks for all the input |
