    Bluewater Sportfishing report/ YFT Tuna 7/14 W/PIC

Well as you all might or might not know I havnt be very active with the board as of late. There is a reason.
I got a job working on a private boat by the name of "RISKY BUSINESS", So all my reports will be from this boat for now on.

    The boat.
The boat is a 2007 Henriques express with 420hp QSB 5.9 Cummings engines for power and she runs like a dream. Great cockpit and huge fish boxes.
Danny (the owners son) loves to fish and is very eager to learn all the ropes and most of all loves to fish and have fun.

This past saturday we left the the inlet at 4am and ran south once we got there I could see the my plans to chunk were not gonna happen as the whole fleet was working most of the lumps so I just set up two JPR jig rods and started to jig where there wernt any boats. Not getting any hits I made a move to find a lump that didnt have any boats on it. I found one and started to chunk. twenty minutes into the drift one of the rods gets a nibble so I crank and fish on, hand the rod over to dannyand game on the fish didnt fight to well so I thought we had a dolphin on till I saw the fish...wow! I said, its a yellowfin, after we boated the fish I set back up on the lump and drifted over the same spot and well what do you know another fish, get him to the boat, danny hits him with the gaff and two yellows in the box.

Now the sad part.. I had to leave, all the ice melted as I like a dumb ass put the ice in the carolina box/livewell and all the ice melted. Some of you might have heard me calling a few people for ice. that was me.. so we left the fish biting and headed in to cape may so not to spoil the fish.

I was having troubles with my fish finder as I wasnt marking anything in the water, I even droped my jig right under the transducer to see if it would pick it up but it didnt. I have the electronic guy coming in on weds to fine tune the thing. its the new navnet v2.
The fish weighed in at 55 lbs and 44lbs I think, mary has the pics.
we will be down at the cnyon club this weekend starting weds. we are fishing the mid atlantic tuna tourn.
so far it me, danny, jimmy(just released) dannys friend craig and maybe one other.

    Capt. Kobey,

Yes, you've been missed here on the board & at the marina. Great to hear that you've hooked up w/an awesome boat and an eager pupil. I've met Dan and his father a few times and both are great people. The boat sounds AMAZING!!!!!

Good luck to you guys this weekend in the SJ Tuna Tournament; I know you'll both make us proud!!!!

Very nice yellowfin catch and hoping there are more of them to come

It may take trolling to put the real slobs on the board this coming weekend and that takes your special magical Illander lure. Talk to you soon and nice yellowfin catch and it could be some really great 20-30 fathom tuna fishing if they show up like a few years ago with the 150 lb bluefin only 3 miles from where the yellowfin bite was. Yellowfins at sunrise in the 40-55 lb class and 125-150 lb bluefin all on the same day trip chunking. Hoping to see this break open real soon but right now more concerned about the offshore weather for the next few days.

yeah it looks a little "sporty" out there in the coming days. I think north carolina has the wind fan turned on us it seems they have a new low pressure making machine installed at the point.
    good luck in the tourny.
