Bluewater Sportfishing report for sunday w/pics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Had brian, ron, rich, and anthony out for sunday's tuna trip. Left at 1:00 am to beat the crowd. Ha that didnt happen, got there and it was a lit up city.....then the rest of the boats came at day break...ughh.. what a nightmare. Anyway got set up away from the fleet but still in a productive area and had our first fish on at daybreak. The fish ran hard to the front of the boat I had the rod and followed him up around the anchor line and back down the other side of the boat and quickly handed the rod off to anthony so I could drop the ball and get some line back on the reel. By the time I got off the ball I was told there is only 10 wraps left on the reel and to hurry up. after a little bit of backing down anthony got some line back and were able to set up on the fish. I put a harness on ron and when anthony was ready he handed off the fish to ron. for the next 1 1/2 we fought this fish and he was clearly not ready to give up at that point.
well he wiped out ron and we set rich up with harness and straped him in.
rich faught this fish for about 20 minutes and the the unthinkable happened. I didnt see what happened but the line went slack and once reeled in every thing was perfect no chafing at the hook..nothing. oh well fish was gone. The bad thing was we lost our early morning bite. went back to the ball and set back up and waited..chunked...waited...chunked...fish on again he went for the rope. I grabbed the rod and went to the bow and got him around the bow and to the back and handed to rod off to anthony and he was able to bring this fish boatside so I could gaff the fish. but I had a problem it was not to big. so I lip gaffed him(well i didnt brian did) and we put him on the gunnel and put the tape on him and he measured out to be 49"..thank god one in the box. After that fish and sitting there for a while I made a move. I saw a scallop boat working and gave that a shot but nothing. I also noticed the fleet was slowing dwindling down to a few hundred....lol and made a move to a lump and marked a ton of bait and set anchor. after 20 minutes of chunking the new rod starts to bend and brian starts to crank..fish on. I put a harness on him and got off the ball just to be sure to get this fish in the boat. Bri put the heat ot him and 15-20 minutes later a 60" fish hits the deck.
The Fleet was so huge on sunday, I think thats why the bite was so bad. Plus it didnt help that the idiots trolling were trolling in with the fleet why I dont know but they need to learn some ethics.I mean cmon do they realy need to troll 10 feet from your bow? ar 15 feet from your side?give those fish a few days it will turn back on.
I have to say this I had a pleasure fishing with everyone to day and rich you stuck it out, I give you big props for that.
Brian also helped me out today big time. he was hands on and helped with the mate duties and did a great job at that.
nice little blood shot..look close
