    Bluefin vs. Yellowfin

    Which fights harder and longer:

Assume an experienced angler, stand-up gear on a 50w.

    40lb bluefin or 40lb yellowfin?

    200lb bluefin or 200lb yellowfin?

This is a highly debated area. I am going to say BFT on both accounts.

i could honestly say i would go with YFT
if there was a 1000lb yellowfin out there i would think it would knock your socks off!

just my opinion... never seen a giant but i will say a 80lb yellowfin will fight better then a 80lb bluefin..

also depends on troll vs chunk.. i think fish on the chunk fight harder.

its my opinion that the smaller specimens of bluefin fight harder than the smaller specimens of yellowfin

    however

once over 80# i think yellowfin tuna fight harder than a bluefin of comparable size...especially in warm water.

also agreed that chunked fish are usually tougher to land than trolled fish.

That's the other side of it. Very tough call.

I would have to say Yellowfin. Could be water temp as they are ussually caught in warmer water. Yellowfin are also ussually caught in deeper water that may give them more room in that direction. The real test would be if they were both caught on the same trip in the same water. Some guys are catching both in the canyons off NJ now. They may be able to weigh in on this one.

It depends on the paticular fish and water temperature...

Yellowfin. Ever notice how they go ape shit when you get them on board and a Bluefin just kind of lays there like, "ok you got me." Also, I have had Yellowfin take off when you stick them with a gaff boat side and bend the shit out of gaffs. Once the steel gets sunk into the Bluefin it's game over. When I finally catch a Yellowfin that is as big as the biggest Bluefin we caught so far I will make a better comparison.

I've often pondered such mysteries of the universe.

Sadly, like trying to figure out which Columbian or Venezuelan wabbit is wasklier, such mysteries remain unsolved to this day!
